Anthropic announced Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 on September 1. According to the company, they share an underlying model but use different safeguards: Fable is generally available, while Mythos requires participation in trusted-access programs.

That distinction clears up a common feed-level misunderstanding. Another model name does not necessarily mean an entirely different architecture or an option every subscriber can select. Product packaging, access conditions and configuration belong in the comparison.

For developers, a fair trial starts with the same task, files and acceptance criteria. Record the effort setting and the tools surrounding the model. An agent able to execute tests is not facing the same conditions as a chat window given a single code snippet.

It also helps to measure the cost of an accepted result, including retries and review, instead of treating a benchmark table as a final tournament ranking. Our editorial suggestion is a familiar bug or a short refactor. The announcement deserves attention; the verdict on your workflow should come from a result you can actually verify.
