Google announced Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber on September 2. The announcement emphasizes improvements in coding and agent workflows. Its performance claims come from the vendor; we have not run an independent evaluation.
The release pace can make a perfectly useful setup feel outdated before your coffee gets cold. For side projects, switching models because the number changed may take more time than it saves. An improvement needs to show up in the work you actually do.
A useful editorial trial would ask for a small fix with three conditions: preserve existing behavior, add a meaningful check and explain the change. Then inspect the executed result. A fast answer requiring three repairs may be less useful than a slightly slower answer that works the first time.
Record the available tools and the number of interventions too. That turns brand loyalty into a comparison someone else can reproduce. The Cyber variant should not be interpreted as unrestricted access either. Read the official product conditions before designing a workflow around it, and judge the complete task rather than the opening response.
