Mistral announced Agentic Search on August 20. The product uses a multistep process in which an AI searches, inspects and checks information in documents. That is a product announcement, not evidence of guaranteed accuracy across every collection.
Imagine a game’s documentation: the general rule is in one chapter, an exception sits in a table and an update appears elsewhere. Finding a paragraph that resembles the question will not resolve that combination. This is where information retrieval becomes as important as writing the answer.
To evaluate a system like this, choose questions with known answers and include some the collection cannot answer. Require a reference to the passage supporting each conclusion. An answer that acknowledges a gap can be more useful than a confident response without evidence.
Our editorial recommendation is to check document permissions and versions too. An assistant should not cross into folders its user cannot read. The interesting gain is navigating a complicated collection with less manual work while preserving a clear path back to the evidence. Otherwise, a polished interface can simply make errors look more convincing.
