No Man’s Sky: Cosmos gives players a new reason to return

Cosmos has arrived on PS5 as a No Man's Sky update. Its expanded space exploration is worth checking if the game is sitting in your backlog.

Hello Games announced Cosmos on September 9 as a free update for existing No Man's Sky owners on PlayStation. It expands space activities, including orbital bases and the ability to own stations.

For returning players, the useful hook is a different session goal. Instead of reopening an old task list, pick something small linked to the update: learn one activity, reorganize a base, or explore a system. That can keep a return visit from becoming another management chore.

There is a worthwhile design question here too. Adding systems to a long-running game means introducing new possibilities without losing newcomers. Content volume alone cannot establish whether that introduction works. Tutorials, interface clarity, and integration with older saves belong in a practical assessment.

We did not play Cosmos for this report. Our reading is that the announcement gives lapsed players a reason to look again, while the quality of that return depends on how its activities fit their interests. Would you come back for building, exploration, or creating somewhere for friends to gather?
