The April 30, 2026 ROG Xbox Ally package covered docking improvements, the library, and an Auto SR preview for Insiders on Ally X. This is a contextual look back at that update, not an announcement of firmware released today.

It matters to players who want one machine for handheld and television use. The experience depends on the entire chain: connections, controller, interface, and how games behave when displays change. Improving just one element does not establish a comfortable transition.

Before assembling a living-room setup, check which features are in the stable channel and which remain experimental. Preview status in the announcement should not become a promise of universal functionality. Test the specific dock, cable, and display combination before assuming a supported resolution.

We did not perform that test or measure performance gains. Our take is that usability updates can matter as much as specifications when assessing a handheld. If you already own an Ally, reviewing software and setup compatibility may be a more useful first step than drawing up a new accessory shopping list.
