ROG XREAL R1 glasses were introduced with micro-OLED displays and a gaming focus. ASUS announced global preorders on May 15, 2026. We revisit the product as an example of a category aiming to bring a virtual display into portable setups.

The appeal is straightforward: an image perceived as large without carrying a monitor. That experience still needs to fit your face and routine. Adjustment, perceived sharpness, text readability, and comfort over a longer session cannot be established from promotional pictures.

Before considering a purchase, check the video connection required by the source device and any adapters involved. A USB-C connector alone does not describe every capability of a port. Also distinguish a display for external content from a device that runs games by itself.

We have not used the glasses or measured latency. Our take is to evaluate this category around a specific scenario: seated gaming, travel, or a second screen. The most useful demonstration would reproduce your routine, including menus and small text. Which situation could justify replacing a monitor with glasses?
