Galaxy S26 Ultra: screen privacy becomes a hardware feature

Samsung introduced Privacy Display with S26 Ultra in February. Visual privacy and the security of your data are related but different questions.

In a statement published February 26, following the February 25 event, Samsung highlighted Privacy Display on Galaxy S26 Ultra, a privacy feature built into the screen. We are revisiting the release for a practical idea: part of using a phone happens while other people are nearby.

On public transport, at an event or at a shared desk, limiting visual exposure may matter for messages and work. That is not equivalent to protecting an account against a weak password, malicious app or information sent to the wrong destination. Those are different problems requiring different measures.

A future evaluation would examine straight-on readability, the view from beside the user and behavior with bright and dark content. For players, it would also be useful to test brightness, color and longer sessions. A specification sheet does not answer those questions.

We have not measured Privacy Display or declared S26 Ultra more secure than competing phones. The idea deserves attention because it brings an everyday concern into hardware. If it fits your routine, look for comparable demonstrations and try it in person. If you rarely use your phone around others, another criterion may matter more.
