Rob Nelson, Rockstar co-studio head and one of the leads on GTA VI, talked about the lead couple in the latest issue of the British magazine Edge. GamesRadar+ published the excerpts on November 1: “We start them wanting to be together, and wanting to give this relationship of theirs another shot. But, as the game progresses, it’s yours to keep or yours to lose.”
According to GamesRadar+, gestures like holding hands bring the couple closer, and ignoring too many calls from your partner can make things go wrong. Jason and Lucia can also stay just partners in crime, without the romance.
Nelson says the question of what the characters want started with Red Dead Redemption 2. There, players chose whether to spend Arthur Morgan's money on himself, on outfits, horses and saddles, or on his adopted family in the gang. The goal was to feel that conflict outside the story scenes, because Arthur is on screen all the time. That push and pull carries over to the GTA VI couple.
The date has not changed: Rockstar keeps GTA VI on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Digital buyers can download the game from November 12.
Our take: Rockstar has not detailed what changes in the story if the couple splits. What has been said is that the romance is up to the player and the partnership in crime stays.
