Shigeru Miyamoto opened the Pikmin Day Direct, published October 31 on Nintendo's official Japanese channel, with a new date. From this year on, November 1 is Pikmin Day. His reason: in the first game, released in 2001 on GameCube, the red, blue and yellow Pikmin debuted together. Side by side, the three of them look like the number 1, so 11/1 becomes the series' day. Today is the first edition. In the same video, he notes that the family now has nine types.
The Hello! Pikmin series of shorts also debuted in that video. Miyamoto says the films are made with the Nintendo Pictures team and that the series is going to the Nintendo Today! app and to Nintendo's other channels. Polygon, reporting the same announcement, records a plan to publish one short a month.
Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy arrives November 12. That date, the voice command and the shape of Dandori Academy were already in the September 9 Nintendo Direct write-up on nintendo.com. In yesterday's video, Miyamoto showed the Switch 2 microphone again: you can give Oatchi orders by voice. The exam asks you to collect the area's treasure as fast as possible, inside a time limit. It opens every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you get one attempt, and the result earns a medal. The September text fills in the rest: online leaderboards, three difficulty levels and 72 stages released over time.
The free demo arrives November 2, with the game's opening area and two Dandori Academy stages.
Pikmin Bloom, the phone game, gets Secret Caves this winter. The squad goes in with a map, which can come on a postcard or as a reward for taking the Pikmin 4 exam. If a creature shows up, a battle starts. The whistle calls the group back.
Our take: the date is an easy hook to remember. What you can try tomorrow is the demo, before deciding on the November 12 game or the upgrade pack for anyone who already has Pikmin 4 on Switch. Nintendo opened that preorder in the September announcement. The price in reais stays on the eShop.
