OnePlus 15 and its 165Hz display: panel speed is not game FPS

The OnePlus 15, launched in 2025, raises a useful gaming question: why does a fast screen not guarantee the same frame rate in every game?

OnePlus 15 launched in North America in November 2025. The official page lists a display reaching up to 165Hz, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a 7,300mAh battery. We revisit it as an explainer, not as a product released this week.

Hertz describes display refresh frequency; frames per second describes the frames a game produces. The figures are related but not interchangeable. Smoothness also depends on software and consistency throughout a session, rather than just the maximum printed on the box.

When comparing gaming phones, look for the game and version, graphics settings and test duration. Sustained measurements tell you more than a brief peak. Temperature and consumption matter too: performance that changes significantly as a device warms up needs context.

We have not measured OnePlus 15 performance or claimed that a particular title runs at 165 FPS on it. The specifications are attention-grabbing, but our conclusion concerns the method: choose according to documented experiences that matter to you. A fast panel can be useful without turning every game into a showcase of its maximum refresh rate.
